Department store group John Lewis today said its three Scottish branches enjoyed double-digit increases in sales last week as its post-Christmas clearance got underway.
The employee-owned retailer reported overall sales of £91.8 million for the week to 5 January, a rise of 25.7 per cent compared with the same week last year.
Its Aberdeen branch was its fastest-growing north of the Border, with sales 15.2 per cent higher than a year ago. Glasgow was up 14.1 per cent, with its Edinburgh store delivering a 12 per cent increase.
John Lewis, which enjoyed record pre-Christmas trading, said the first full week of its clearance had “continued the momentum gathered over the festive period”, while online sales soared 45.3 per cent.
It added: “Electricals and home technology continued its fantastic run, with sales up 44 per cent with strong increases across all areas and sales of tablets showing no signs of slowing down and great sales of Windows 8 computers since launch.”
