Aerospace engines maker Rolls-Royce has won a
$103.3 million (£64.6m) extension to its deal to maintain more than 200 training aircraft for the US navy.

The deal extends a five-year contract that started in 2008 and will see the group provide support at the four main naval air stations in Florida, Maryland, Mississippi and Texas.

Paul Craig, president of defence services at Roll-Royce, said the deal with the US navy was “one of our most successful partnerships” and the group will be maintaining the F405 engines that power its Boeing-BAE T-45 jets, which are a modified version of BAE’s Hawk trainer, as well as the aircraft gas turbine starting systems.

He added: “We look forward to another successful year, working in partnership with our customer to maximise engine availability for training missions.”
