A NEW fellowship programme will enable five Scottish entrepreneurs to take part in a 15-week intensive study period at Boston-based Babson College as Fulbright Scholars next year.
The Saltire Fellowship Programme, a joint venture between the Scottish charitable Saltire Foundation and the US-UK Fulbright Commission, will be offered to mid-career British entrepreneurs and potential business leaders. Recipients will be required to spend time in Scotland developing their businesses.
Penny Egan, executive director of the Fulbright Commission, said: “I’m thrilled that we have forged this great partnership between two such respected organisations, both of whom are dedicated to supporting excellence and scholarship.”
The US-UK Fulbright Commission was created in 1948 by US senator William Fulbright. It offers grants for study in any discipline and at any accredited institution in the US and UK, as well as a number of special exchange programmes for shorter projects or for younger scholars.
About 15,000 UK nationals have studied in the US and 12,000 US nationals in the UK as part of the programme. Prominent alumni include poet Sylvia Plath, Liam Byrne MP, Bank of England monetary policy committee member Ben Broadbent, and the economist and Nobel prize winner Joseph Stiglitz.
