Scotland’s largest independent travel company is to create 75 jobs as part of an expansion plan that will see the firm open a chain of concessions in supermarkets.
Barrhead Travel said the first concession will open at Sainsbury’s Kingsgate in East Kilbride later this month and it is in talks with other supermarkets.
The firm, founded in Glasgow by Bill Munro in 1975, currently employs 600 sales staff and said the growth plans would add a further 75 sales and support employees across Scotland and Cumbria. It has opened 11 branches over the past year and is also recruiting at its Glasgow and Barrow-in-Furness call centres.
Chief executive Sharon Munro said: “2012 has been a good year for the business, with substantial growth and new store openings creating a number of new sales and support roles across the country.
“The economic climate remains challenging for the travel industry, but our commitment to providing customers with choice, flexibility and best value has enabled us to continue with our ambitious growth strategy.”
