MARKETEER Karen Scott has made a flying start to her new job at OilCareers.com, clocking up more than 29,000 miles in 23 days on a whirlwind tour of the firm’s global offices.
Since becoming head of marketing at the online oil and gas jobs site, the University of Abertay graduate has visited energy hubs including Calgary, Houston, Perth and Dubai.
She said: “My role is to take a leadership position and direct our marketing globally. Our offices are located around the world but we remain a close-knit team – any given day I have contact with our global teams to ensure we stay ahead of the game.”
Scott has more than 15 years’ experience with marketing roles across a range of industries, and will fit in with her international colleagues as a speaker of French and Spanish who is studying Italian.
Jansch answers skills demand
Lawyer Steven Jansch has joined Gillespie Macandrew’s Edinburgh office, strengthening its litigation and dispute resolution team as the recession bolsters demand for its work.
A specialist in commercial litigation and qualified as a solicitor advocate, he joins from DWF Biggart Baillie and has worked with a number of firms in Edinburgh and Glasgow, including, Dundas & Wilson, Mitchells Roberton and Davidson Chalmers.
He said: “I am delighted to be joining Gillespie Macandrew at a time when our skills in litigation and dispute resolution are in increasing demand. The impact of the sustained recession is clear for all to see, nowhere more so than in the area of insolvency, which accounts for around 50 per cent of my client work.”
He said in some sectors disputes were arising ultimately as a result of cash shortages, while some company directors were getting into legal difficulties as they tried to keep loss-making companies going.
Outwith his latest role, Jansch is also a director of the Franco-Scottish Business Club.
Powell set to shine at Tods Murray
Former City lawyer Ben Powell has been recruited by Tods Murray and is to become a partner in the firm’s projects team.
Powell has acted on a number of public procurement projects and once helped conclude three English local authorities get together to commission a £240 million street lighting project – the first of its kind.
After qualifying in English law and working originally in the City, he moved to Scotland where he has worked with McGrigors and most recently Dundas & Wilson.
He has recently been involved in legal work for a number of renewable energy projects.
He said: “I am hugely excited to be joining Tods Murray. The firm and the projects team have a strong and dynamic reputation across both Scotland and the UK and as partner I will have the opportunity to help build that further and increasingly across the renewables sector.”
