More than 60 jobs are being created as Clydebank’s urban regeneration company invests £1.6 million to build workshops and oilfield services firm Glacier Energy hires staff in Glasgow’s East End.

The project to build seven new workshop units and prepare six additional sites for small factories is expected to bring up to 50 jobs to Clydebank.

The development, off Glasgow Road at Clydebank East, is to meet demand in the town for small workshop units, following the success of the JKS workshops.

Graham Mochan, chair of the town’s urban regeneration company Clydebank-Re-built, said: “We are delighted to be meeting local needs for more modern workshop units.”

He said the group was “building on success” as space at existing units was at a premium.

“We have already had enquiries from businesses interested in expanding or opening up at Clydebank East,” he added.

The build phase will be used to help train about 50 construction students at Clydebank College. Contractor Fleming Buildings has already started work and the seven workshops, ranging in size from 550 to 1,200sq ft, are scheduled to be ready by September.

Meanwhile oilfield services specialist Glacier has increased its workforce in Glasgow by 50 per cent, including trainee opportunities aimed at residents of the city’s East End as part of its ongoing regeneration project.

Glacier has created six positions for trainee welding, production management and administrative trainees, as well as ten other jobs at its Clyde Gateway East headquarters.

The company, which moved to Clyde Gateway East from Motherwell in October 2012, has now increased staff numbers from 28 to 44 since the start of 2013.
