A SOFTWARE company from Aberdeen has won a £150,000 contract from Total after helping the French oil giant during the aftermath of the gas leak on the Elgin platform back in June.
The “Loc8” programme written by MarineMTS allows staff in a control room to watch the movement of all their vessels at the same time. Total originally used the software to track shipping movements around its Elgin platform but is now rolling out the system throughout its North Sea operations.
Wynne Edwards, managing director of MarineMTS, said: “Having provided this solution for Total just a couple of months ago in response to a specific emergency situation, we are pleased to make it widely available to the market. We already have strong interest from a number of operators.”
