Superdry owner enjoys festive sales boost

Clothing retailer SuperGroup, owner of the Superdry fashion label, today said it was on track to meet full-year trading expectations following a jump in sales over Christmas.

The firm said like-for-like sales in the 13 weeks to 27 January were 10.6 per cent higher than the same period last year, boosted by demand for jackets and knitwear.

Total retail sales came in at £89.8 million, up 14.4 per cent on a year ago, as it opened five stand-alone stores, including one in Inverness and its first outlet in Germany.

Chief executive Julian Dunkerton said: “Although trading conditions remain volatile and unpredictable, the year-to-date results, and the early indications of the response to the new season range, have provided us with ever-increasing confidence for the future.”

He said the retailer was “well placed” to deliver full-year results in line with market expectations. The consensus analyst forecast is for a pre-tax profit of £49.3m.
