FIGURES released today by the Scottish Government are expected to show an 18 per cent jump in the number of people directly employed in life sciences.
Some 17,300 staff were working for life science firms in 2011, up from 14,600 in 2010, according to data expected to be released at tonight’s annual Scottish Enterprise life sciences dinner.
When accountants, lawyers and other support services are taken into account, the total is closer to 32,000 jobs.
Scott Johnstone, chief executive of the Scottish Lifesciences Association trade body, said: “The latest statistics are great news. Bearing in mind these statistics don’t capture all of the companies active in the sector, it’s clear evidence the industry is in good health.”
