SCOTS Law firm MacRoberts is expanding into the north east by opening an office in Dundee.

Managing partner Craig Turnbull said the firm was encouraged by the rise in economic activity in Dundee, including the £1 billion waterfront development, which is the second-largest regeneration project in Scotland, the new £45 million V&A museum, and the new £14m railway station.

“This is an exciting and strategically important decision by MacRoberts,” he said. “We already have many clients in the north east. The office will bring us closer to them and also allow us to grow our business in the city and the surrounding area.”

Led by a former managing partner John Macmillan, pictured, the new office will provide the same range of services offered by MacRoberts in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Macmillan, who led the firm between 1998 and 2005, said: “There is already a considerable demand for our services in the Dundee and Perth areas and across Fife.”
The expansion comes despite figures showing a small reduction in turnover at the firm in the last financial year. Revenues fell 4 per cent to £17,318,250, with pre-tax profits suffering a similar decline on
a like-for-like basis, to £5,493,869.

The company blamed the downturn on subdued business activity due to the struggling economy.

It still managed to grow its partner base with three recruits, taking the total to 48.
