Primark plan to open stores in France as takings soar

FASHION chain Primark have revealed that they are interested in opening stores in France.

It has been reported that the trial stores could be located across Paris, the city which is known for fashion outlets such as Dior, Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent.

John Bason, Primark’s finance director, said: ‘It’s early days but we are expressing an interest in France. We’re looking at the end of the year.’

The news follows reports of Primark doing well with cash-strapped shoppers this Christmas.

Parent company Associated British Foods (ABF) have reported an increase in sales at the chain over the 16 weeks to 5 January.

The group’s 14 store openings in Europe, including its second shop on London’s Oxford Street, helped boost figures, but City experts suggest the like-for-like result, excluding expansion, still rose by 9 per cent in the period.

Last month, the statistics institute in Paris said that French gross domestic product rose 0.1 percent, only half of the pace that was estimated on November 15th. Jobless claims reportedly rose to 3.13 million in November.
