Electronics giant Samsung said yesterday that global sales of its Galaxy S smartphone series have passed 100 million since the first model was launched less than three years ago.
The South Korean firm said it had sold more than 25 million Galaxy S smartphones, 40 million Galaxy S II smartphones and 41 million Galaxy S III smartphones in the last three years.
Snoozebox checks in two board members
Snoozebox, the Aim-quoted temporary hotel operator, yesterday appointed former Woolworths finance director Stephen East and ex-Earls Court and Olympia managing director Hugh Scrimgeour as non-executive directors.
News of the appointments came a day after Scotland on Sunday revealed the firm will have a hotel at Archerfield in East Lothian for this summer’s Open golf at nearby Muirfield.
Tough market dents Superglass prices
Insulation maker Superglass has seen its average sales price hit by tough market conditions, although the first phase of its cost-saving programme remains on track for completion during the first half of this year.
The Stirling-based firm is investing £6.5 million to make its products more profitable, and chairman John Colley said its second production line should be upgraded this spring.
Moss Bros figures cut a dash in City
Menswear retailer Moss Bros has reported better-than-expected Christmas trading after seeing younger customers smarten up for the party season.
A trend towards black-tie outfits, as seen on ITV talent show, The X Factor, has benefited the chain, which saw like-for-like sales grow 2.7 per cent in the 24 weeks to 12 January. The firm’s shares have doubled in the past year.
Devro chairman to join McBride board
Steve Hannam, chairman of Moodiesburn-based sausage skin maker Devro, is to join the board of own-label household goods firm McBride as a non-executive director next month.
McBride, which makes products such as laundry detergent and mouthwash for the likes of supermarket groups Morrisons and Sainsbury’s, said: “His wide-ranging experience will be of enormous benefit to our company.”
