The owner of Reader’s Digest UK has laid off 95 people following a slump in demand at its direct marketing arm, which sells books, CDs and DVDs.
Private equity firm Better Capita, which bought the magazine out of administration in 2010, said it will continue to be published as normal during a restructuring of the business.
Furniture firm ends the year on a high
Interfac, the Aberdeen-based office furniture broker, yesterday said it had ended 2012 on a high note with some £750,000 of contract wins after steady growth throughout the year. The firm added that it was looking to increase turnover to more than £4 million in 2013.
Costain reports bumper order book
Costain, the engineering group that owns Aberdeen oil and gas consultancy ClerkMaxwell, yesterday reported a strong finish to 2012.
The group said its order book now stood at £2.4 billion with some £700 million of work already secured for 2013. It is preferred bidder on a further £400m of work.
