HSBC to pay out £1.2bn in fraud probe

HIGH street bank HSBC is to pay out a staggering £1.2 billion in penalties after an investigation into money-laundering by US state authorities.

It will include a £777 million forfeiture, the highest ever paid by a bank. The probe focused on the illegal transfer of cash from the likes of Iran and money from Mexican drug cartels through the US.
