Apple chief executive Tim Cook has unveiled plans to produce one of the group’s existing lines of Mac computers in the US next year.
In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, he said the company, which started outsourcing production in the 1990s, will spend $100 million (£62.2m) in 2013 to move production to the US from China, but did not specify which products would be included.
Cook said: “This doesn’t mean that Apple will do it ourselves, but we’ll be working with people and we’ll be investing our money.”
Sants ‘in job talks with Barlcays’
Former Financial Services Authority chief executive Hector Sants was last night said to be in talks with Barclays about taking on a compliance and regulatory role at the bank.
The reports came just days after sources said Sants was in “early stage” discussions about joining “big four” accounting firm Deloitte. Sants stood down from the FSA in June, shortly before the City watchdog fined Barclays a record £59.5 million for manipulating Libor.
The FSA is being scrapped as part of a shake-up of supervision that will make the Bank of England the main banking regulator.
London firm bought by Space Solutions
Space Solutions, the Aberdeen-based workplace design firm, has bought Cochrane McGregor Associates in London for an undisclosed sum.
The London office has recently won £1.5 million-worth of contracts, including work for Amec in the City, the fit out of offices for the Linde Group in Guildford and an office project for a government department in the West End.
Steve Judge, managing director of Space Solutions, said: “We have been considering the move into England for some time as the number of UK-wide contracts increased.”
