Scottish manufacturer Steel Engineering is likely to create jobs after winning a contract to supply wind turbine jackets to Korean giant Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).

The Renfrew-based engineering company won the business on the back of SHI’s £100 million agreement to build turbines at the Energy Park at Methil, Fife.

The deal also includes

additional on-site work after

delivery and transition steelwork for a wind turbine generator system.

Peter Breslin, managing director of Steel, said: “We operate in a highly competitive market and have worked extremely hard to secure such a ground-breaking contract for our company and our Scottish-based employees.

“It is a huge honour that a global giant like Samsung recognises our talent and has faith in our ability to manufacture and deliver. It underlines our increasing reputation in Scotland’s burgeoning renewable sector.

“Securing the contract is testament to our competitive pricing schedules and our on-going investment and commitment to the renewable energy sector, which has included the establishment of a renewable energy training academy to create a skilled workforce for the sector. A major contract like this will help fuel our ambitious expansion plans and is likely to boost future job creation in Renfrew and also in Fife.”
