Balfour Beatty wins £125m Scottish roads contract

Infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has been awarded a long-term deal, potentially worth more than £125 million, to manage and maintain major trunk roads in south-west Scotland.

Perth-based Scotland TranServ, a joint venture between Balfour and Mouchel, will replace current contractor Amey when the contract starts on 1 April. It will initially run for five years, with the possibility of extending that for up to five more years, and is worth around £25m a year.

Balfour Beatty chief executive Ian Tyler said: “We are delighted to have been selected by the Scottish ministers to deliver this contract to maintain roads on routes vital to the country’s economy.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with Transport Scotland, building on our successes and bringing innovative and efficient approaches to improving trunk road maintenance.”

The south-west region covers an area stretching from Stranraer in Dumfries and Galloway to Alexandria in Strathclyde, and includes around 420 miles of roads.
