Temporary power specialist Aggreko has won a $75 million (£47.2m) contract to double its capacity in the west African country of Ivory Coast.

The Glasgow-based firm said the two-year deal, from the Société des Energies de Côte d’Ivoire, will see it provide 100 megawatts of gas-fuelled temporary power to help reinforce the country’s energy supplies and it creates permanent capacity.

Today’s order builds on an existing 100MW contract that Aggreko signed with Ivory Coast in 2010 – at the time, that deal was its largest ever gas-fuelled contract.

Chief executive Rupert Soames said: “We are delighted that our customer has entrusted us with a further 100MW.

“We believe this underlines the success of our gas-fuelled power plants, in which we have invested heavily in recent years – worldwide we now have over 750MW of gas-fuelled capacity on rent.”
