Farming markets: 1,370 lambs sold in Dumfries

THE Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 1,370 store lambs. Breeding sheep (210) sold to £142, feeding lambs (1,160) to £64.

STIRLING – United Auctions had forward 83 rams, selling to £450. The firm also had forward 480 commercial beef breeding cattle. Heifers and calves sold to £2,400, in-calf heifers to £1,600, cows and calves to £2,700, bulls to £3,300 and bulling heifers to £900.

ST BOSWELLS – John Swan Ltd sold 86 clean cattle, 116 OTM cattle, 2,356 new season lambs and 1,498 ewes

Bullocks (40) averaged 208.2p and sold to 241p (-7.8p on week), heifers (43) averaged 208.6p and sold to 240p (-6.0p on week), three young bulls averaged 182p and sold to 194p (n/c on week) and 116 beef type OTM cattle averaged 123.4p and sold to 192p (-10.3p on the week). Lambs averaged 150.6p and sold to £97(-3.4p on week), ewes averaged £46.64, selling to £81 for ewes and £89 for tups.

STIRLING - Caledonian Marts sold 737 store cattle, suckled calves and nine bulls. Bullock calves (89) averaged 211p and sold to 232p and £860, heifer calves (103) averaged 189p and sold to 207p and to £670, store bullocks (300) averaged 190p and sold to 234p and to £1,040, store heifers (245) averaged 178p and sold to 207p and to £995 and bull averaged 182p and sold to 192p and to £725. The firm also had forward 2,849 store lambs and breeding sheep.Store lambs (2,031) averaged £36.65 (£1.50 on the week) selling to £55, ewes (829) averaged £31.82 (+£4.82 on the week) selling to £96 and gimmers (20) averaged £81.75 selling to £104.

AYR – Craig Wilson Ltd, had forward 2,337 sheep comprising 1,714 prime lambs and 623 cast ewes and tups. Prime lambs sold to 195.4p or £87, averaging 148.1p.Ewes sold to £96, tups to £155.
